Puerto Vallarta fishing Review

There are only three places on the globe which have world class Black Marlin. Australia, Panama, Mexico. PV in October and November is second to none. I’ve made it a annual pilgrimage.
Captain Steve Torres on “My Marlin” would be my first choice. He’s the best live bait “slow troll” Marlin fisherman I’ve ever met.

I just got off a 3.5 day expedition. Fish counts say it all. 1. Black Marlin, 1. Blue Marlin, 1. Pacific Sailfish, 1. Big Bull Dorado, 1. Nice Yellowfin tuna. 25 long eye jacks (at night). I can honestly say it was the best fishing adventure I’ve ever had. I’ve chased those elusive Blacks for 20 years! Captain Torres and crew (top notch & fun) made that dream come true.

Yes there’s bigger, more luxurious charter boats to pick from in PV. I don’t know about you but I’m there to fish, period. If you like to sit inside with air conditioning until a fish is hooked? Then this isn’t your kind of boat or crew. Remember a nice marlin will keep you in the sun for at least a hour or two. It’s better to become “one with the heat”. You’ll suffer less.

I have to mention the food served on the 3.5 day trip. Typical day eating at sea: fresh sashimi, fresh ceviche, pineapple, mangos, numerous veggies I could name, roasted chicken. The crew were excellent cooks. We even went into Punta Mita to unload fish and go out to dinner to celebrate catching a blue & black marlin all in one day. Steve recommended the Blue Shrimp. The captain not only can fish, he can pick great restaurants too.

Would I recommend My Marlin  Sportfishing’s Captain Steve of My Marlin?  Put it this way. As soon as I got within cell range I booked to fish the PV Tournament with Captain Steve and crew next November.

Puerto Vallarta fishing Charter review

Puerto Vallarta fishing Charter review by Paul Sojkowski

I had the opportunity to go out on a 12 hour day of fishing with my wife, daughter and father on the”My Marlin,” skippered by Steve Torres and crewed by Oscar on 12/29/15. This is the second year going out w Steve and he does not disappoint. Starting with Damon who does a great job in setting up the trip and communicating all neccessary details, I wanted to have the opportunity to catch a marlin as well as dorado. Steve and Oscar did an outstanding job letting us know what to expect and how the day would unfold. We trolled and had an early dorado hookup. Later Steve found floating debris and it was game on with the dorado. We caught five monster dorado (mostly bulls) I missed one. That gave us a total of 6 for the day. Other boats came to us after seeing our hookups. They weren’t catching anything upon arriving; we had the right bait. The best was yet to come. After about 15 minutes of beginning to troll again, the marlin hit. With superior boat control by Steve, I was able to boat my first blue marlin after a 1/2 hour fight, weighing in at approximately 300 lbs. Right after it was over, Steve said, “Let’s get another one.” That’s confidence. My family and I vacation in PV every Christmas and I would never consider another boat or captain.

Puerto Vallarta fishing information

Puerto Vallarta fishing Information.
If you are after a certain game fish in Puerto Vallarta then you definitely want to do a little research before booking Your trip.  For Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna You will need to go offshore on a deep sea fishing charter. The 2 hot big game fishing spots in Puerto Vallarta that you can reach on a 1 day fishing trip is 36 miles offshore to Corbetena or 50 miles offshore to el Banco. A Charter 36 miles offshore to Corbetena is typically a 10 hour fishing Charter. A Charter to El banco 50 miles offshore is a full 12 hour day. From late June to late November you catch Blue and Black Marlin and high season is Late July to November the Marlin bite seems more consistent in the hotter months July, August, September, then October and November We do not catch as many but the Marlin We do catch are normally bigger in size of course every year differs a little bit My Favorite is August and September. If you are after Yellowfin Tuna you can catch big Tuna normally all year around but in the last couple years for some reason they have been keeping offshore 80-120 miles so a over night fishing charter is normally necessary. But the Tuna bte is still consistent fishing el banco and el Corbetena in September and October. Sailfish you can also find all year around sometimes right off the point of Banderas bay in Punta de mita and at el morro a rock 22 miles offshore. the best time to catch Sailfish is July through November but truthfully you really have decent shot at Mahi mahi an Sailfish all year around. Wahoo You can find at either Corbetena or el Banco and the best season is September and October.

Corbetena. We have also been catching Sailfish and mahi mahi at La Corbetena and el Banco the yellowfin Tuna fishing has been very slow besides a few small 10 pounders inshore other then that if you want to the big cow Yellowfin tunas you need a full 2 and 1/2 to 3/12 day charter 120 miles offshore.  Inshore fishing We have  been catching Jack Crevalle, Bonitas, Skip jacks, Needlefish, and a few smaller Mahi mahi.  Right now offshore Billfishing is what is most hot so if you want a Sailfish or Marlin it is great time to be fishing in Puerto Vallarta.
